Internships are unpaid but are designed to be taken for college credit. CCHS requires interns to work 4 hours a week to earn 1 school credit. Interns may work up to 16 hours a week to earn 4 school credits.
COLLECTIONS INTERNSHIP
Position Summary
The Collections Intern(s) will assist the staff with the organization and inventory of the museum’s extensive collection. The intern(s) will work with the Collections Manager to determine which aspect of the collection they would like to focus their attention: artifacts, photos, or documents. Additionally, the intern(s) will gain experience working with the Catalogit program—a contemporary museum collections management platform. The intern(s) may also be asked to assist staff with exhibit research and panel writing. This internship is designed to be an entry-level position into the museum collections sector.
Responsibilities
● Inventory and organization of museum collection
● Exhibit research and panel writing
● Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal Collections Intern is an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in history. Interest in public history or museums is a plus. The intern should be an excellent researcher, detail-oriented, motivated, a self-starter and a team player. The intern may need to provide a writing sample before consideration for writing text panels.
Potential Collections Interns will be working closely with Cultural Research Historian Johnnie Heintz.
EDUCATION INTERNSHIP
Position Summary
The Education Intern will assist the staff in developing and implementing activities for field trips and other youth visitors. Additionally, the intern will work to create three conceptual travelling trunks that may be used by local students. Trunks will follow Oregon Department of Education curriculum standards and provide educators with two lesson plans that align with trunk materials. This internship is designed to be an entry-level position into the museum education sector.
Responsibilities
● Develop activities for school field trips and youth visitors
● Create and maintain a contact list of schools and teachers in Clackamas County and
surrounding area
● Assist staff in developing travelling trunk program
● Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal Education Intern is an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in History or Education. Interest in public history or museums is a plus. Previous experience with children is strongly preferred. Confidence around students from third grade through high school a must. As this position may have the potential for going into the classroom, so any intern must have the ability to pass a background check. The intern should be an excellent researcher and writer, motivated, a self-starter and a team player.
Potential Education Interns will be coordinating with all CCHS staff members, but will be working most closely with Executive Director Stephen Greenwood and Community Engagement Coordinator Abigail Morrow to develop educational programming.
GRANTS INTERNSHIP
Position Summary
The Grants Intern will work with staff to update and maintain a grants database for the Clackamas County Historical Society (CCHS). The grants intern will research granting foundations and organizations and write a profile about them for the database. In addition, the grants intern will work to identify funding trends, which will help the CCHS staff and board identify our funding priorities for the coming year and begin to create a long term vision for the organization. This internship is designed to be an entry-level position into the grants sector.
Responsibilities
● Research granting foundations, organizations, and potential sponsors
● Write informational profiles about the foundations, organizations, and potential sponsors for CCHS grants database
● Identify funding trends by analyzing past funded projects from various granting organizations
● Along with staff, present findings to CCHS staff and board in order to select strategic funding priorities
● Additional tasks as assigned

The ideal Grant Intern is an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in History. Interest in public history, museums, non-profits, or grants is a plus. Experience with grants is appreciated, but not expected. The intern should be an excellent researcher and writer, motivated, a self-starter and a team player.
Potential Grant Interns will be working closely with Executive Director Stepehen Greenwood.
SOCIAL MEDIA & MARKETING INTERNSHIP
Position Summary
Marketing interns will be tasked with helping curate the media presence of the Clackamas County Historical Society (CCHS) and its associated museums. Marketing interns will compile data on visitor trends, conduct research for content creation purposes, and help manage the social media presence of the CCHS. This internship is designed to be an entry-level position into the social media and non-profit sector.
Responsibilities
● Curating, creating, and posting content to the CCHS Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
● Compiling visitor data from reviews and questionnaires
● Additional tasks as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal Marketing and Social Media Intern is an undergraduate or graduate
student pursuing a degree in Marketing or Communications. Interest in public history,
museums, non-profits, and graphic design is a plus.
Potential Marketing and Social Media Interns will be working closely with Marketing Director Waldo McGinnis.
