Wanted: Volunteer and Visitor Services Coordinator (VVSC)

Hours: 20-25 per week

Permanent, Part Time

Potential schedule: Thursday-Saturday: 10:00-5:00

Wednesdays as needed; occasional evenings

Wage: $13.00 per hour, with periodic pay increases based on performance.


The Volunteer and Visitor Services Coordinator (VVSC) for the Clackamas County Historical Society will assist the Museum of the Oregon Territory (MOOT) and Stevens-Crawford Heritage House (SCHH) in providing a welcoming and informative experience for visitors. Additionally, the VVSC is responsible for the recruitment, training, and management of all volunteers that work for CCHS museums. Qualified candidates must maintain a professional and positive attitude and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. The VVSC must be adept in Excel, Google applications and social media platforms.  Must be attentive to detail and willing to work in an ever-changing environment.  Additionally, VVSC will ensure that the front desk at MOOT is staffed during open hours of the museum (Wednesday-Saturday, 10:30-4:30).  An education or equivalent experience in a museum environment is preferred, but not required.  


The VVSC will be responsible for:

  • Managing front desk operations at MOOT

    • Answering phone, taking detailed messages, following opening/closing procedures

    • Providing accurate information to visitors

    • Processing cash and credit card sales of tickets and merchandise

  • Managing gift shop

    • Ordering and pricing merchandise for gift shop

    • Organizing and displaying inventory

    • Developing relationships and communication with vendors and artists

  • Volunteer management

    • Recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers

    • Identifying community outreach opportunities to promote volunteering

    • Planning the annual volunteer appreciation event

  • Working collaboratively with the staff, board, and CCHS committees as assigned

  • Attending weekly staff meetings to review needs and issues

  • Generating monthly and annual museum attendance, group sales, and gift shop sales reports

  • Maintaining and developing attendance, group sales, and gift shop tracking systems

  • Maintaining accurate records of volunteer hours

  • Occasionally demonstrating the tech exhibits installed in the museum

  • Other tasks may be assigned as needed.
